Charter One Bank complaint by Snaillaura
I'm tired of getting ripped off with their bank fees! I call for available balance, then I don't go over what they tell me and BAM...4 over drafts! They tell me not all transactions are immediately deducted...but when I use my debit card I call after each transaction and it is counted...I don't write checks I just use my debit card...I think they do this just so they can screww you! Oh and if you get more than 2 a year well they really stick it to you by raising the fee!!! Ya, that helps my poor *** out alot!

....are you people idiots or what. You need to have the money in your account before you write checks or use your debit card. It doesn't matter how fast or slow a debit transaction or check is cleared if the money is there. Unless you people are trying to do something shady with your accts like depositing non negotiable items or empty envelopes thru the ATM you will be caught. Your debit transactions will bounce. There is also such a thing as a check that was deposited being held until it clears. Just because you deposit a check Monday doesn't mean the money is there. Also the balance on Monday shows what is available at that moment. Anything that clears that night will change your balance on Tuesday. So if you are having so many problems why don't you check your balance online everyday so you don't look like such an idiot! :P

Well i just want to shed a little light on the situation so you all understand. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUT CHECKING ACCOUNT.

If you cannot learn to do that you will be negative every single time.

What happens it when ever you use credit with your card you authorize that merchant to hold that amount of money out of your checking. They do that to make sure your account is open and active and you have enough money in there to cover the item you purchased.

The most common issue with the customers are that they respend money that they already spent. The hold is only there for up to 48 business hours so when you call in and ask if something is on hold and we dont see it we are telling you the truth. We do not know what you purchased or what checks you have outstanding we didnt write them, we didnt go to the store and use your card so we can only see what the murchant allows us to see and if the hold is expired that means we can no longer see it. So the only person that knows what you spent is you not the bank. we hold your money it is not our responsibility to keep track of it.

SO GOTO THE BANK AND GET A LEDGER BOOK.

it will help you out in the long run and keep you from getting fees. Take it from a woman who know. I was in your shoes just a couple years ago until i starting working for a bank and know i REFUSE to give them another dime of my money!!!!!!!!!!!

and that is the truth.

4/18 was a Friday. The item posted to your account and caused the Acct to go overdrawn, the bank returned that item on Monday because that was the next business day.

I have account in CharterOne for many years and I can tell that they have a shaddy business.

I am just too lazy to change the account and they are taking advantage of that.

Last december I deposited $2000 check from a company and they added the amount to my account. Initially I was having $1500 and now it was showing $3500. After 7 days they reported that my $2000 came back with "insufficent funds". Instead of reducing my account balance by $2000 plus fees (maybe $20), they reduced the account balance by $4000 for one day and then credited $2000 after one day.

According to them it is computer issue but I lost additional money because of negative balance

About Charter One they have played many games with my account. When I have a sufficient amount of money in my account it takes days sometimes a week for small purchases to clear the account. If there is a small amount of money in my account the small purchases are deducted from my account quicker; in as little as a day which amounts to overdraft fee's. The key is to keep them on the phone and let the reps make misrepresentations, contact the corporate Managers with the misrepresented info and get your money back. The other thing I have done is wrote complaints to the Better Business Bureau and have gotten my money back, all in all this bank would have extorted $1000.00 in overdraft fee's out of me in 2007, but because I kept calling and writing letters I had been reimbursed most all fee's assessed on me. Thanks to charter one and the way they operate, I have a hard time opening accounts at other banks, therefore they keep building a customer base that truly has nothing good to say about them. Charter one is a problem bank that creates problems for its customers and detains customers against there own will through illegal practices that can not be proven without alot of leg work on the customers part. Watch your bank statements, Charter one is deducting more than your actual purchases by a penny or more, In addition to these little rip-off's I was charged $10.00 more than I should have the grocery store.

I actually have proof that Charter One is on some shaddy sh***

Two transactions cleared my account on 4/18 the companies comfirm they recieved payments on 4/18. But on 4/21 Charter One reversed these transactions, cleared a check and is charging me overdraft on the two transactions. Do not use Chater One.

You said, I call for available balance", try keeping a written ledger, the available balance can be off if a transaction was on hold, but dropped off before the merchant completed it. Pen, paper and a calculator will keep you in balance! " :upset
