Called CharterOne today to inquire about the balance in my checking account. The customer rep kept asking me the account number. I offered her other information (SSN, DOB, etc.) but she wouldn't take it. I have accounts at other banks and they can get my account info using SSN. Most people memorize their SSN but not every bank account number. The rep would not do anything if I don't give her account number. I know that if I walk to Charter One branch, they would be able to pull my account info using my SSN. What a *** rep.

Their fee is also very high. A bank office check for $8! I should have switched bank long time ago. I'll go with my credit union after my trip. They pay higher saving interest rate and have lower mortgage rate.

So long *** Charter One.

Hellllooo...have you ever heard of identity theft? I wouldn't want my account number given out over the phone when they don't know who they are talking to for sure.

If you go to the branch I'm sure they either recognize you as a repeat customer or hey...here's an idea...I bet they ask for your drivers license.

It has your name and a photo on it so they can verify it is you. :p

If you call on the phone, they have to verify your info. I could give you a long list of people who over the years could have garnered my social and birthdate - i certainly dont want them checking my balance!

You calle IN guess what to get account information that REP is REQUIRED to get the account number from you. If you can't provide it go to the branch where they can ID you and pull up your information. Its not that the rep was *** he or she was doing HER JOB!
